What is the Certificate of Excellence?
Founded in 2010, the Certificate of Excellence award honors hospitality businesses that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. Properties that are awarded the Certificate of Excellence demonstrate hospitality excellence and represent the upper echelon of businesses listed on TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site.
The certificate is awarded to outstanding accommodations, vacation rentals, attractions and restaurants from around the world to recognize the fact that they consistently impress travelers. In fact, the Certificate of Excellence is a source of pride for hospitality professionals because it is solely determined by traveler reviews and ratings on TripAdvisor.
How are the nominees selected?
To determine Certificate of Excellence honorees, TripAdvisor uses a proprietary algorithm that factors in a variety of user-generated content. This includes review ratings, overall rating and quantity and recency of reviews. To qualify for a Certificate of Excellence, a hospitality business must:
A property’s popularity ranking on TripAdvisor is also factored into the algorithm.
TripAdvisor is the only impartial travel review site and remains the market leader. Guests are not able to book through the site and therefore the reviews posted are seen throughout the industry as being of more value than bespoke booking engines such as Booking.com or Agoda.
